The end of the “Dembele era” at Barcelona has come
Ousmane Dembélé has already left Barcelona. The French winger reached the end of his contract on the 30th of June, has not renewed and still does not know where he will play.
Ousmane Dembele is no longer a Barcelona player. After months of suffering, negotiations, refusals, being relegated to the substitutes’ bench and even seeing matches from the bench, the Frenchman no longer has a contract as “Azulgrana”.
July has arrived and with it the end of the 2021-22 season. The contracts ended this Thursday, June 30th and, therefore, the unbalanced winger does not have a team.
Barcelona and its agent, Moussa Sissoko , negotiated until exhaustion. But his representative did not accept any of the proposals of the “azulgrana” club in a delicate economic state.
Not even the activation of the “economic lever”, with the sale of image rights to the American company “Sixth Street”, with 10% for the next 20 years, was enough to raise the entity’s offers.
Expectations too high:
Ousmane Dembélé has risen to Barcelona’s ranks as the most expensive signing in Barcelona’s history with €140m . He arrived with the role of replacing Neymar, who had just left for PSG in exchange for 222 million .
Injuries appeared quickly in a Frenchman who, in addition, added up to several acts of indiscipline . He caused a distance with the club that, despite the years, he was unable to resolve.
It also added to the irregularity that marked his entire career. Despite his overwhelming quality, the French winger has always been in the shadow of the name he came to replace .
Time-consuming and unproductive negotiations:
Barcelona saw how time passed and the end of Dembélé’s contract approached. Negotiations began months ago, but they always ended with a negative response .
Not even the arrival of Xavi Hernández to the technical command, who initially put him on the field and then made him a starter, was enough to convince Dembélé and his representatives that the best thing would be to accept the club’s proposal.
In the final stretch of his contract, clubs such as Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea put his name on their agendas, but they also failed to give the Frenchman what he asked to sign.
Now, on the 1st of July, Dembélé arrives in the summer without having a contract on the table . There will be no shortage of suitors.
